Experiences & Activities
With the element of surprise around every corner, our mindful adventures never fail to captivate guests
Our guides take you on unforgettable explorations across the wildest paths of this vast, ancient land.
Imagine following the tracks of a wild dog pack and the thrill when you spot their white tails as they hurtle around on a frenetic hunt! Imagine how your heart skips a beat when you hear the whoop of hyenas, snatching carrion from one another… or the breathtaking moment when you come across a leopard draped over the branch of a tree...

True tales of the bush
Our guides read the bush in real time. Tracks in the sand, alarm calls from the trees, birds gathering to circle above a kill. Every detail adds context to the story unfolding around you.
It’s fascinating to watch our adept guides use their skills to find out what’s going on, literally piecing together the events which took place…
“Based on the tracks, the single male buffalo turned around here, was chased by the lions off the road and forced towards that log – where he tripped and couldn’t get away from them. Then they took him down.”

Reading the skies too, seeing vultures congregating above when they have spotted a kill on the ground, detecting the presence of a leopard in an area by listening to the alarm calls from monkeys, impala and spurfowls. Every unfolding event is part of the circle of life, a wilderness tale which later becomes your story tell, again and again.
Our Activities
1
Safari Game Drive
In this region, there is a high concentration of the most sought-after animals on safari. Tengile River Lodge and Kirkman’s Kamp access some 10 500ha and Rattray’s Lodge, MalaMala Camp and Sable Camp traverse 15 880ha of untamed land.
Twice-daily, your guide will take you on exhilarating excursions in comfortable, robust 4x4 vehicles. At times, these drives include sensitive off-road driving to capture up-close interactions. Sightings are approached with patience and strict protocols, keeping wildlife relaxed and allowing moments to unfold naturally.

2
Bird watching
The woodland savanna and thick riverine bush contribute to a high species count of birds and as a premier birding destination, the region is home to 500 feathered species, including various migratory birds present between the months of November to April each year.
Whether on foot or in the open vehicle, birders are guaranteed frequent sightings with an impressive line-up, ranging from the tiny iridescent sunbirds to the formidable Martial eagles and other large raptors, with the Southern Ground Hornbill being the largest.

3
Nature walking
There are so many small and fascinating treasures to be found and studied when you are closer to the ground than inside a vehicle. Many tiny creatures and plants that go unseen during drives are waiting to be discovered on the soil and grasses.
Some of the lodges and camps offer tailored adventures on foot, in the company of your guide who applies strict rules to ensure your comfort and safety.
Weather-dependent, walks are conducted during the winter months when visibility is enhanced. It’s also more pleasant to move through dry bushveld, as you learn how to track and experience close encounters with smaller game without them being aware of your presence.

4
Wellness
Relaxing treatments are available in-room or in the tranquil spas. We have partnered with a leading holistic spa and skincare company, so you can enjoy an authentic, natural African experience. Expect pure indulgence, to emerge refreshed and wholly restored.

5
Night Drives & Star-gazing
When the weather is favourable, guests have the option to set off on an immersive night drive to explore the vast skies, with spectacular views of the Milky Way and Southern Cross, combined with nocturnal wildlife viewing.
During these magically serene evenings, when the noise of the world softens, your guide will open your eyes to the timeless wonders of the cosmos, creating special memories you’ll never forget. Whether you’re a seasoned star-gazer or new to this ancient pastime, you’ll definitely see the world and beyond in a different light!

6
Tennis
Kirkman’s Kamp is the popular choice for tennis enthusiasts as they can maintain their fitness regimen and hone their racket skills on the all-weather court.
Originally opened by legendary tennis player Billie-Jean King, the court offers spectacular views of the surrounding bush, which hosts an abundance of frequent visits from the wildlife in the area. After a game, guests usually end their exercise sessions with a rewarding dip in the beautiful pool.
